Why we heat our pool for swimming lessons and aquacise

Our pool is aimed at being a relaxed and comfortable place for babies, children and adults to learn to swim, and a pleasant environment for adults to exercise.

For several months during the year, pools in Barbados are heated naturally via the sun, creating comfortable temperatures for learning to swim. However, during cooler months, pool temperatures can fall below 25°C, which feels cold to any swimmer, but particularly to those learning to swim, who will not be as active as someone training, for example, for competition. For young children, and in particular babies, cool water can be dangerous as it reduces body temperature 4 times faster than cool air. Babies and toddlers are less able to regulate their body temperature than children and adults so it is crucial that they do not spend longer periods of time in water below 30°C or 86°F. It is for that very reason, that our pool is heated to that temperature, as a minimum, throughout the year.

For those who participate in aquacise classes, our minimum pool temperature ensures a level of comfort which allows the body to move freely and relax into the exercises which can be carried out at your own preferred level of intensity, further reducing the risk of injury.
